Colwyn Model Railway Club’s first exhibition attendance of 2025 was in Porthmadog, for the Ffestiniog Railway’s ‘Model Railway Workshop’ weekend on Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th May 2025.
Fresh from its scenic overhaul, the clubs layout of choice was Ddraig Gwarel, our 009 layout which depicts a fictional narrow gauge quarry railway set in North Wales. Extensive work has been carried out by members over the last few weeks, revitalising the layout with new buildings, details and trees.
The layout ran well all weekend, with a wide range of models appearing including Ffestiniog classics such as ‘Palmerston’, ‘Welsh Pony’ and ‘Linda’ alongside some freelance kits built by members.
Purchases were made, cakes were eaten and trains were run. But it was also a great chance to meet up with friends old and new, alongside admiring some of the stunning layouts on display.
Thanks to members Merfyn, Graham, and Matt for operating the Saturday, with Merfyn, Mick, Mike, Barry and Phil handling Sunday’s operations.
A big thank you to the Ffestiniog Railway for their organisation, invite and ensuring the smooth running of the day. We’ll see you soon for the next one!
